The rewards of bringing sight to children in Argentina - Essilor See Change

Oscar Nucci, a sales consultant for Essilor Argentina, has been volunteering with the company’s outreach program “Ver bien para aprender major” for the last four years. He shares the difference the project makes in his own life as well as the lives of the children he helps.

“In 2010 I joined this adventure called “Ver bien para aprender mejor” (See better to learn better). We reach out to places where people barely have their basic needs covered to survive: electricity, water, a dignified place to live, food…Many times the kids don’t even imagine they need glasses, for the simple reason that they don’t know they have poor vision; they never had an eye exam, they have never been told about what it is like to see well.

“I am deeply grateful to this program that offers a lot of kids in my country a better life thanks to a better sight”, said Oscar Nucci

It´s amazing to see their faces when – literally – they discover a whole new world. Their expression changes when they can see the exact shape of a letter. They smile when they realize they can join in fully at school, learn better, and start thinking about their future. In some cases we contribute by preparing them breakfast while they wait for the eye exam. Some of them thank us with words. The others, most of them, simply thank us with a smile. And I feel fulfilled. I am deeply grateful to this program that offers a lot of kids in my country a better life thanks to a better sight.”
