EssilorLuxottica and the FIA reinforce their commitment to promote good vision for safer roads - Essilor See Change

EssilorLuxottica and the global governing body of motorsport, the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) have announced a renewal of their commitment to raising awareness on the importance of regular eye checks for all road users. The partnership also aims to promote good vision for safer roads through a comprehensive plan to mobilize public and private stakeholders, as well as leverage both innovation and their global reach.

This renewed three-year partnership within the new FIA #PurposeDriven movement aligns with the start of a new “Decade of Action for Road Safety” in 2021, set out by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), with the objective of halving the number of road victims by 2030.  With 1.4 million people killed in road crashes and 50 million seriously injured every year, this is a global priority. Adopting measures to ensure good vision for all road users makes up an integral part of the United Nations’ recommendations to achieve this goal.

Together, EssilorLuxottica and the FIA will roll out a wide range of initiatives focused on:

  • Reinforcing awareness campaigns and advocacy in the run-up to the 2022 United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), dedicated to a global road safety plan of action
  • Accelerating innovation in the areas of eye exams, visual solutions, and road safety-related products
  • Leveraging racing expertise and applying it to road safety
  • Scaling up access to visual equipment in collaboration with FIA Member Clubs all over the world. This will include joint actions with the United Nations Road Safety Fund
