My name is Kiefer Kofman. I’m from Los Angeles and I did my undergraduate degree in New York in political science and completed my master’s degree in England. I will also be starting law school in the U.S. this fall.

I applied for the EBoP Fellowship because…

I signed up for the EBoP fellowship because it fits well with my interests and passions, both intellectually and philosophically. Having focused on human development issues with a concentration on India during my master’s, coupled with my experience in politics, the opportunity to be immersed in the field and understand the issues I have studied in a more intimate, innovative and practical way, was an opportunity I could not pass up.

During these six months, I am…

I am based in Bangalore, India during the fellowship, but I have also spent extensive time throughout the country conducting interviews at 2.5 New Vision Generation training centers and Eye Mitra shops. My assignment scope is focused on increasing service uptake at Eye Mitra shops, increasing awareness on eye care more generally, profiling select Eye Mitra “Eye Heroes”, and supporting the See Now campaign, featuring Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan, to raise awareness on eye health throughout India.

With this fellowship, I want to….

My goal is to create a tangible and innovative campaign and/or scheme that will generate long-term, sustainable ways of bringing awareness to the importance of eye care in the BoP context, as well as nudges that will link that awareness to demand for Eye Mitra shops.

After the fellowship, I will be…

After the fellowship I will begin law school, but I seek to use the experience of the EBoP Fellowship towards my long-term career goals of working on development and public policy in the legal field.

So something interesting about me…

In my other personality, I am a passionate drummer, baseball player and creative writer!
