Rural India suffers from  a drastic shortage of qualified eye care professionals, with the nearest optician often over 30km away. Essilor’s Eye Mitra program is bringing vision care to rural areas in India and contributing to the social and economic development of villages by developing a livelihood for local under-employed youth.

After training as an Eye Mitra optician (“friend of the eyes” in Hindi), Satyapal Kushwah has started his career afresh and is now helping his community see better. This video shares Satyapal’s story of how he is improving his livelihood and the lives of the people in his community through access to vision care.
