Children’s Day in Southern India brings gift of vision care - Essilor See Change

Children’s Day is celebrated on different dates in different countries. In India, the date is November 14th. To mark it, Essilor Vision Foundation (EVF) India partnered other organizations to provide sight screening for thousands of children and adults in Southern India. 

In the rural district of Doddaballapur, volunteers from Essilor Manufacturing India Ltd in nearby Bangalore were supported by the Sankara Eye Hospital in their screening of over 1500 children from 15 schools. The teams identified a number of children who were referred to the hospital for further specialist care. Essior Vision Foundation (EVF) India supplied spectacles that were delivered to those in need of vision correction.

Later in the month, EVF and partners Essilor Sankar and Company (ESCO) and the Aravind Eye Hospital, journeyed to the remote village of Marathur, in the foothills of Tamil Nadu, to bring eye care to communities there. They provided preliminary screening to more than 400 children and 50 adults at six government schools. In addition to screenings, EVF India and ESCO also organised a vision awareness event at a local government-supported self-employment training centre for 40 women.
