As the world’s eyes turn to Brazil for the start of the 2016 Olympic Games, we prepare to share an inspiring web series that focuses on how four young athletes have had their lives changed thanks to the free eyeglasses they received last year. Watch this teaser and stay tuned for all four interviews over the next 3 weeks.
“How do you see the world?” is a partnership that was launched last year between Ver e Viver, Essilor’s social business arm in Brazil, and the Nissan Institute. This vision health program screened over 1,000 students and teachers in public sports schools called GEOs Ginásios Experimentais Olímpicos (Olympic Experimental Gymnasiums)*. Close to 400 ophthalmologic consultations took place and 318 free glasses were delivered to students in need.
*GEOs (Ginásios Experimentais Olímpicos – Olympic Experimental Gymnasiums) are public schools with a particular focus on sports. Their prototype school model is part of a governmental initiative aiming at promoting sports and physical health among children and young adults. The following schools were involved in the project: GEO Juan Antonio Samaranch, in Santa Teresa (RJ), GEO Félix Mieli Venerando, in Caju (RJ), GEO Dr. Sócrates, in Pedra de Guaratiba (RJ).
